The 2010 Special Olympics USA National Games is proud to announce that we are in the very fortunate position to have filled all of our required volunteer positions. The involvement in Special Olympics from the community is unprecedented and speaks volumes about the incredible commitment from the local citizens that selflessly pledged their time and talents to see that the USA National Games are a success for the athletes.
Because of this outstanding support, we are now asking the many individuals, families, companies, and service organizations that have gone to the effort to register and follow our volunteer requirements to assist the Games in another way. Since we have more individuals registered than we have volunteer positions, we are asking those without assignments to take on an equally important job—that of being Fans in the Stands.
Fans in the Stands is one of the most vital roles surrounding the Games, and not only provides the encouragement and support for our competing athletes, but it is an extraordinary way for us to showcase the Lincoln community on a national scale. Athletes and their many delegation members, along with countless family and friends will be traveling to Nebraska this summer. We want to show them that our community not only values the Games, but more importantly we value the accomplishments of the athletes that have worked so hard, many of them for a lifetime, to get their shot at winning a gold medal.
Therefore, we apologize in advance for any individuals that may be disappointed that they will be unable to receive a traditional volunteer assignment, but we ask that folks remember why we are here and why we are doing this---because at the very core of our event, it is about the inspiration, the joy, the accomplishment, and the fun that our athletes will have during their time here in Lincoln, and Nebraskans have a chance to make sure that this is the best Games ever!
Thank you,
2010 Special Olympics USA National Games
