Greening the Games

With the help of partners like Walmart, Nebraska welcomes athletes along with their families and fans to go green. Together, we can make an impact.

How are the USA National Games going green?

We are utilizing local warehouse space to cut down on fuel and the transportation of materials from long distances.

We are limiting the use of paper materials and utilizing other methods of communication. For instance, the volunteer process is entirely based online.

We are using environment-friendly materials where possible. For example, Walmart is providing organic t-shirts for our 8,000 volunteers!  In addition, if printing is necessary, we will print double-sided and strive to use organic paper.

The Games Organizing Committee currently recycles a large variety of materials, including paper, plastic and aluminum cans.

During the week of the Games, there will be recycling bins at every venue to accommodate 8,000 volunteers and 3,000 athletes.

Shaving your eight minute shower to five minutes cuts back 513 pounds of carbon emissions.

The United States has 5 percent of the world's population and 30 percent of the waste.
